Color and pattern male
Head:golden-brown.
Neck: hackle golden-brown, lower hackle feathers with somewhat black shaft-stripes; front of neck black similar to the breast.
Back: deep-red
Shoulders and wing-arch: deep reddish-brown.
Saddle: hackle golden-brown, feathers bordering the tail-coverts have barely visible shaft-stripes.
Tail: steering- and support-feathers black; sickles and coverts green-glossy black, the latter slightly brown-edged.
Wings: bow black, wing-bar somewhat violet-like glossy black with or without some peppering
Primary-flights: black with a narrow brown edge along the outer-vane.
Secondary-flights: inner-vane black with a slightly brown peppered edge and feather-end, outer-vane umber-brown, forming a umber-brown wing-triangle when the wing is closed.
Breast: black, visibly mixed witrh reddish-brown mottled feather-parts.
Flanks: black mixed with some brown.
Thighs: dull black slightly more heavily mixed with brown.
Belly: dull black whether or not mixed with some brown.
Rear-part: grey to pale-black mixed with some brown peppering.
Down: greyish.
Serious faults
White in any part of the plumage. Red breast and strong shaft-stripes.
Faults
Too much brown on the breast, flanks, thighs and belly. Slightly too much shaft-stripes. Incomplete colored wing-triangle.
Color and pattern female
Head: golden-brown.
Neck: hackle from top to bottom changing from reddish-brown to light golden-brown with slightly interrupted blackish shaft-stripes with a golden center in the lower half of the hackle, black increasing slightly in intensity towards the bottom; front of neck similar to the breast.
Back, shoulders, bow, wing-coverts and saddle: warm reddish-brown each feather with blackish peppering without light edging.
Primary-flights: outer-vane black with yellow-brown peppering, inner-vane dull black, slightly brown peppered at the tip.
Secondary-flights: outer-vane brown with black peppering, inner-vane more strongly peppered.
Tail: dull-black steering-feathers except for the upper ones, which are peppered with dull-brown along the edges, coverts similar to the back with slightly more blackish peppering.
Breast:evenly salmon brown-red.
Thighs: salmon-brown
Belly: salmon-brown changing to brown-grey towards the rear-part.
Rear-part: brown with grayish peppering.
Down: greyish.
Serious faults
White in any part of the plumage. Solid red feathers on back, shoulders and wing-coverts. Too light ground-color.
Faults
Too red or too grey glow on back, shoulders, bow, wing-coverts and saddle. Too much shaft-stripes. Light veins.
