Color and pattern male and female

Ground-color: dark grey, bordering on black with a metallic sheen.

Plumage: each feather is cross-striped with regular, parallel, sharply defined greyish-white transverse bars, free of light veins and a rusty tint.

Male: dark-grey transverse bars and the greyish-white transverse bars are of equal width.

Female: dark gray transverse bar are wider, making her appear darker than the male.

The number of transverse stripes should be proportional to the length of the feather and should extend across the entire length, each feather has a dark tip.

The barring should be as even as possible across the entire plumage; the cross bars should run as straight as possible across the feathers and should not even tend towards an inverted V-shape in the ornamental feathers.

The overlapping feathers gives the plumage a bluish-grey appearance.

Down: barred although less sharply defined and with less intense color-depth.
