Color and pattern male
Head: golden-brown.
Neck: hackle golden-brown, lower hackle feathers with some black shaft-striping; front of neck black, some brown permitted.
Back: deep-red.
Tail: steering- and support-feathers black; sickles, by-sickles and coverts green-glossy black, the latter slightly brown-edged.
Saddle: hackle golden-brown, the feathers bordering the tail-coverts have some barely visible shaft-stripes.
Wings: bow feathers black; shoulders deep reddish-brown; wing-bar slightly violet-glossy black, with or without some brown speckles.
Primary-flights: black with a narrow brown edge along the outer-vane.
Secondary-flights: inner-vane black with a slightly brown-peppered laced and brown speckles at the tips, outer-vane umber-brown, forming an umber-brown wing-triangle when the wing is closed.
Breast: black, visibly interspersed with reddish-brown.
Body: black with some brown interspersed.
Belly: dull-black, with or without some brown interspersed.
Thighs: dull-black, slightly more heavily interspersed with brown than the breast.
Rear-part: grey to pale-black with some brown peppering.
Down: greyish.
Serious faults
White in any part of the plumage. Red breast and strong shaft-stripe pattern.
Faults
Much brown or red in the breast, belly, and thighs. Slightly too much shaft-stripe pattern. Incomplete colored wing-triangle.
Color and pattern female
Head: golden-brown.
Neck: hackle from top to bottom changing from reddish-brown to light golden-brown with slightly interrupted blackish shaft-stripes with a golden center in the lower half of the hackle, black increasing slightly in intensity towards the bottom; front of neck similar to the breast.
Back and saddle-cushion: warm reddish-brown with blackish peppering without light edging.
Tail: steering-feathers dull-black, except for the two upper-feathers, which are speckled with dull-brown along the edges; coverts warm reddish-brown with slightly more blackish peppering than the back and saddle-cushion.
Wings: bow, shoulder, and coverts warm reddish-brown with blackish peppering without light edges.
Primary-flights: outer-vane black with yellow-brown speckles, inner-vane dull black, slightly speckled with brown at the tip.
Secondary-flights: outer-vane brown with black speckles, inner-vane more strongly peppered.
Breast: evenly salmon-colored brown-red.
Belly: salmon, fading to brown-grey towards the rear.
Thighs: salmon-brown.
Rear-part: brown with grayish peppering.
Down: greyish.
Serious faults
White in any part of the plumage. Solid red feathers on shoulders and back. Too light ground-color.
Faults
Too red or too grey glow on shoulders, back, and saddle-cushion. Extensive shaft-pattern on the neck-hackle. Light veins.
