Lemon black quill

Color and pattern male

Head: lemon-yellow.

Neck: hackle glossy, vibrant lemon-yellow; front of the neck similar to the breast.

Back, shoulders and saddle-hackle: glossy warm lemon-yellow.

Tail: steering-feathers black; sickles and coverts green-glossy black with a narrow, sharply defined lemon-yellow lacing.

Wings: vibrant lemon-yellow; the wing-bar feathers with a more or less faint black pencilled inner-vane.

Primary-flights: outer-vane lemon-yellow with some black pencilling to the end, inner-vane lemon-yellow strongly mixed with black.

Secondary-flights: outer-vane lemon-yellow, inner-vane lemon-yellow strongly mixed with black.

Breast, flanks, thighs and belly: lemon-yellow, flanks show some black pencilling.

Rear-part: blackish-grey with brown tinge.

Down: blue-grey.

Serious faults

Too dark, too light or irregular ground-color. Too brown on shoulders. Absence, too broad or very irregular lacing on sickles or tail-coverts.

Serious faults to a lesser degree. Too dark on the back.

Color and pattern female

Head and neck-hackle: warm lemon-yellow.

Front of the neck and upper-breast: warm lemon-yellow without black pencilling.

Back, shoulders, wing-coverts and lower-breast: warm lemon-yellow, each feather pencilled with green-glossy black quills, shaped like grains of wheat, three to five times crosswise on either side of the shaft entirely distinct, touching neither the shaft nor the edge of the feather.

Tail: steering-feathers lemon-yellow with strong black quill pencilling, most prominent in the top two..

Primary-flights: outer-vane lemon-yellow mixed with some black pencilling; inner-vane lemon-yellow strongly mixed with black, fading towards the edge.

Secondary-flights: outer-vane lemon-yellow with coarse black quill pencilling, inner-vane lemon-yellow with coarse irregular black quill pencilling that turns into more or less longitudinal stripes.

Lower breast, flanks, thighs belly and rear-part: lemon-yellow with some quill penciling that become stronger towards the bottom.

Down: blue-grey.

Down: light blue-grey.

Serious faults

Too dark, too light or irregular ground-color.. Coarse or very irregular quill penciling. Insufficient depth and sharpness of the quill penciling. Quil penciling rising too high on the breast.
