Note

As the chickens with the mottled color varieties age, the amount of white in the pattern will increase. Two-year-old chickens generally have the best pattern distribution.

Color and pattern male

Head: mahogany.

Neck: hackle warm brown-red, each feather with a short glossy green-black V-shaped spangle and a tiny white the tip, on the sides a mahogany ornamental fringe; front of the neck similar to the breast.       

Back: mahogany, each feather with a diamond-shaped, glossy green-black spangle and a tiny white tip.

Saddle-hackle: similar to the neck-hackle, shaft-stripe and mottle are less noticeable because the feathers are much thinner than those of the neck-hackle.

Tail: main-feathers black, each feather with a white tip; sickles and coverts glossy green-black with a tiny white almost V-shaped tip.

Wings: front almost black; shoulder and wing-bow mahogany, sparsely with tiny white mottles; greater-coverts mahogany, each feather ends in a glossy green-black crescent-spangle with a almost V-shaped white tip, forming a clear black and white wing-bar when the wing is closed.

Primary-flights: inner-web black, outer-web black with a narrow mahogany lace and a white tip.

Secondary-flights: outer-web mahogany, inner-web dull black widening at the end to the outerweb connecting to the white tip.

Breast: mahogany, each feather ends in a glossy green-black crescent-spangle with a almost V-shaped white tip.

Thighs, belly and fluff: roughly similar to the breast. 

Down: grey with a salmon-coloured tint, transitioning to light grey at the base.

Serious faults

Considerably too light or too dark ground-color. Too strong development or too few spangles on the breast. Coarse or complete vague blurry markings. Too much white in the wing-flights.

Ground-color slightly different tinted. Slightly too much white in wing-flights. Slightly too much white in over-aged chickens.

Secondary-flights: outer-web mahogany, inner-web dull black widening at the end to the outer-web connecting to the white tip.
