Speckled

Note

As the chickens with the mottled color varieties age, the amount of white in the pattern will increase. Two-year old chickens generally have the best pattern distribution.

Color and pattern male

Head: dark warm reddish-brown.

Neck: hackle warm reddish-brown, each feather with a  green-glossy black shaft-stripe ending in a tiny green-glossy black spangle with a white mottle at the tip and a reddish-brown ornamental fringe on the sides; front of the neck similar to the breast.

Back: dark, reddish warm reddish-brown, each feather with a diamond-shaped, green-glossy black spangle and a tiny white mottle at the tip.

Saddle: hackle similar to the neck-hackle, shaft-stripe and mottle are less noticeable because the feathers are much thinner than those of the neck-hackle.

Tail: steering-feathers black, each feather with a white mottle at the tip; sickles and coverts green-glossy black with a tiny white almost V-shaped mottle at the tip.

Wings: bow almost black; shoulder and wing-arch reddish warm brown-red, sparsely spangled with tiny white mottles; greater-coverts warm brown-red each feather ending in a large, almost round, glossy green black spangle with a almost V-shaped white mottle, forming a clear black and white wing-bar.

Primary-flights: inner vane black, outer vane black with a narrow brown-red lace and a tiny white mottle at the tip.

Secondary-flights: outer vane warm brown-red, inner-vane dull black widening at the end to the-outer vane connecting to a white mottle.

Breast: warm brown-red, each feather ends in a large, crescent-shaped, green-glossy black spangle with a white V-shaped mottle.

Thighs, belly and rear-part: similar to the breast.

Down: grey with a salmon tint, changing to light-grey at the base.

Serious faults

Considerably too light or too dark tint of the ground-color. Too strong development of the black spangles on the breast. Too little pattern on the breast. Coarse white mottles. Complete vague blurry pattern. Too much white in wing-flights.

Faults

Slightly different tint from of the ground-color. Slightly too much white in the wing-flights. Slightly too much white in over-aged chickens.
