For a long time, geneticists believed that multiple laced braunpartridge, or 'braun gebandert' as it is developed in Germany, would only be possible with the columia gene Db and that so-called male- and female-breeding was necessary for this. It is now clear, however, that this simply involves multi-laced partridge where selection has focused on a brown breast. This color is recognized in Germany precisely to address the prevention of male- and femalebreeding, which is undesirable in the context of animal welfare. It is therefore simply inherited in a purebred manner.

Male- and femalebreeding is still persistently promoted in many color varieties but is completely unnecessary; it is perfectly possible to breed show-worthy males and females from a single pair of parents.  Most breeders of the current generation in the 21st century are more realistic in this regard and know about this. Unfortunately, the fact is that for some, winning at an exhibition is more important than anything else, and everything is done to achieve that, also this outdated information. It is regrettable that animal welfare is not spared in the process.
