Color and pattern of the male

Head: orange-red.

Neck: hackle golden, each feather with a narrow mingled black shaft-stripe, running almost parallel to the feather-edge, ends near the tip, the upper-part is separated by a golden vein; front of the neck black.

Tail: steering-feathers: black; sickles, by-sickles and coverts glossy black.

Back and shoulders: golden-red.

Saddle-hackle: golden, preferably without shaft-stripes.

Wings: bow black; wing-bar glossy black.

Primary-flights: black with a narrow brown edge to the outer-vane.

Secondary-flights: inner-vane and tip black, outer-vane brown, forming a brown wing-triangle when the wing is closed.

Breast, belly and rear-part: black predominantly with a narrow light-brown edging.

Thighs: preferably black.

Down: dark-grey.

Serious faults

Neck-hackle with broken shaft-stripe and too brown or too yellow. Too dark on wings. Too little pattern on breast and thighs. Almost mottled breast. White in wing-flights young male. 

Faults

The above serious faults occur to a lesser extent. Incomplete colored wing-triangle.

Color and pattern of the female 

Head: orange-reddish brown.

Neck: hackle golden, each feather with a narrow mingled black shaft-stripe, running parallel to the feather edge ending in a point near the tip, the upper-part is separated by a golden vein; front of the neck similar to the breast.

Tail: black with yellow-brown similar to the ground-color.

Shoulders, back, saddle,wings and thighs: even yellow-brown ground-color with a fine, regularly distributed black peppering and a yellow-white shaft; each feather has a sharp, evenly widthwise, shiny gold flitter edge.

Primary-flights: black-brown with a narrow grey-brown outer-vane.

Secondary-flights: outer-vane similar to the shoulders; inner-vane black-brown.

Breast: salmon-colored to brownish-red, some flitter permitted.

Rear-part and down: brownish ash-grey.

Serious faults

Broad or broken neck-hackle pattern. Excessive rust on wings. Coarse peppering or too dark a ground-color on the back and wing-flights. Too light flitter-color. Insufficient flitter.

Faults

The above serious faults occur to a lesser extent.
