Barred

Color and pattern male and female

Ground color: dark gray, bordering on black with a metallic sheen.

Plumage: each feather is cross-striped with regular, parallel, sharply defined grayish-white transverse stripes, free of light shafts and a rusty tint.

Male: dark gray transverse stripes and the grayish-white transverse stripes are of equal width.

Female: dark gray transverse stripes are wider, making her appear darker than the male.

The number of transverse stripes should be proportional to the length of the feather and should extend across the entire length of the feather, each feather has a dark tip.

The striping should be as even as possible across the entire plumage; the cross stripes should run as straight as possible across the feathers and should not even tend towards an inverted V-shape in the ornamental feathers.

The overlapping feathers gives the plumage a bluish-gray appearance.

Down: not only the upper plumage is striped, but also the down, although less sharply defined and with less intense color depth.

Serious faults

Incorrect or irregular pattern. Pattern that is too dark or too rusty. Insufficient pattern in the down. Presence of black feathers.

Faults

Minor color- and pattern deviations. Slightly too dark pattern.
